Captain Wilczynski is a native of Merrillville, Indiana and attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on a Naval ROTC Scholarship.  In 1988, upon graduation from Marquette, Captain Wilczynski was commissioned and reported to Pensacola, Florida for Naval Aviator training.  He received his wings in the fall of 1989.

In May of 1990 Captain Wilczynski joined the “World Famous Woodpeckers” of Patrol Squadron 49 (VP-49) at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida.  While in VP-49 he qualified as a P-3C Patrol Plane Commander and Instructor Pilot/NATOPS Evaluator in addition to being certified as a CNO Special Projects’ Patrol Plane Commander and Mission Commander.  In September of 1993 he reported to Patrol Squadron 30 as a Fleet Replacement Instructor.  While at “The Pro’s Nest” he instructed in the P-3A and the P-3C Update 2, Update 2.5, and Update 3.  He also served as the Instructional Systems Development Division Coordinator, Fleet Projects Officer, and Assistant Schedules Officer.

In November of 1996 Captain Wilczynski joined Patrol Squadron 62 (VP-62) after leaving active duty.  While serving in VP-62 he has held numerous billets including Operations Officer, Training Officer, Pilot Training Officer, Pilot NATOPS Officer, Detachment Officer-In-Charge, and Executive Assistant.  During this tour he flew P-3 missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Captain Wilczynski commanded NR Tactical Support Center 0374 in Jacksonville, Florida from October 2004 to December 2006.  Tactical Support Center 374 was awarded the NOSC Jacksonville Large Operational Unit of the Year for 2006.  Captain Wilczynski completed tours with NR Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet as the Chief Staff Officer, NR CNE-CNA-C6F Detachment 802 as the Deputy Chief of Staff Officer for Administration, Logistics, and Manpower, and NR Navy Personnel Command as the Executive Officer .  He participated in Operation Odyssey Dawn and Operation Unified Protector as well as various exercises and staff support throughout the 6th Fleet and 7th Fleet Areas of Responsibility.

His awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various other personal and unit awards and citations.

Captain Wilczynski has been a commercial airline pilot with Delta Air Lines since 1997.
